Whether you’re looking at Alabama or Tennessee: Here are the 3 Most Important Questions About Your Home
I started this week off in the gym listening to Jim Kwik. Jim Kwik is a brain and memory coach author. He has a podcast called Kwik Brain with Jim Kwik. In Episode 53 of that podcast, Kwik interviewed Vishen Lakhiani, the founder and CEO of Mindvalley, as they discussed the process of developing a life vision. Within that process, Lahkiani gave the 3 most important questions to ask.
His 3 questions:
What do I want to experience?
How do I want to grow?
What do I want to contribute?
He expands on those questions in the podcast and so I’d encourage you to listen to that episode.
What I’d like to do is connect those questions to your piece or pieces of real property. How do those questions play a part in the home, business, land that you purchase or own?
Although real estate is typically the largest investment most people will ever make, it’s ultimately a smaller investment into your overall life goal. These three questions can make a huge difference in the way that you enjoy and utilize your real estate.
As you think about your new home, what are the experiences that you want to create? What sports will you and your friends gather to watch in your living room? What games will you play with your family? How might your backyard become a place to have those late night chats with your spouse after the kids are asleep? What experiences are important to you in this home?
How does the purchase of this home contribute to your overall growth? Is there a place for a home gym? Can you find a spot to shelve and read your books? Where can you escape to meditate and spend time with yourself? How might this home add to your growth?
Finally, think through how this home might allow you to contribute to something greater than yourself. Will you be able to bring a sense of community to your neighborhood by opening your home to your neighbors? Will this new home allow you to grow vegetables to share with those around you or even to sell at the local farmers’ market? Will your garage be the birthplace of the next company to impact the world? What role does your home play in the way you will contribute to the community?
Our real estate purchase is definitely one of the most important and expensive purchases we’ll ever make. But, ultimately, that purchase is simply a tool in larger life goals. You can win in real estate in any market when those life goals take precedence over anything else.
Whether you’re purchasing a home or some form of real estate or have owned the same house for a long time, take a moment this week to sit down and answer those questions for yourself as they pertain to your home.
What experiences do I want in my home?
How does my home lead to my growth?
What role does my home play in my overall contribution to my community?
